PTFE heating cables

Certifications

PTFE heating cables are series circuit cables in which the power supplied does not vary as the temperature varies, and it is the conductor itself that produces the power through the Joule effect; for this reason, they must be supplied at both ends.
These cables can be supplied either already assembled complete with the connections between the heating cable and the cold cable, or in reels for making the heating circuits in the field.
In any case, it is important to keep in mind that these cables cannot be cut and spliced to vary the length of the heating circuit from that determined at the time of sizing.
Varying the length of the heating circuit results in a variation of the power supplied with the danger of subjecting the cable to excessive temperatures with consequent damage or having less power available than required.
These cables always require a control thermostat not only for accurate process temperature control but also to avoid overtemperatures that would cause damage. For installations in ATEX certified zone, the temperature control must be carried out in accordance with the regulations in force.
The cable consists of a copper alloy conductor with a first PTFE (fluoropolymer with high mechanical and corrosive resistance) insulation, a mechanical protection sleeve and earthing braid and a second PTFE outer sheath.
The cable is highly flexible and easy to install with a minimum bending radius of only 2.5 times the cable diameter.

Advantages:

  • Possibility of low voltage or 380- 440V ac power supply, including three-phase
  • Constant power at any temperature without the need for oversized start-up absorption protections
  • High flexibility and ease of installation
  • Low purchase cost

Examples of application:

  • Maintaining products with temperatures up to 150°C
  • Suitable for long piping with single-terminal supply
  • Particularly suitable for installation on hoppers, tanks and filters
  • Can be installed in areas with an explosion hazard
